Sky Sunday: When Drip was Sad

(Using puppet called Drip)

Let me tell you my story. My name is Drip. Good morning! Say, ‘Good morning, Drip’. I am a tiny bit of water called a water molecule. One day I was floating on the sea under a very warm sun. Suddenly-whoosh-I was in the air, a tiny bit of water floating on the breeze. Higher and higher I went until I reached lots of other bits of water. There were millions and millions of me! We all joined together. And what do you think that big bunch of bits like me is called? (Responses) A cloud!

I was a very happy cloud floating across the land singing my song:

I’m a little rain drip floating high, ready to drop down from the sky, when I’m falling down just hear me shout: open up I’ll fill your mouth!

But suddenly I was floating over a big city.  Down below there were lots of cars and big chimneys on top of big factories. Have you seen them? And all this smoke and gas was coming up into the cloud.  And the cloud turned to smog.  And then some of burning gas grabbed me. They call it sulphuric acid!

Did you know gas can grab you and creep inside you?  It was awful. I was coughing. I felt sick and sad.  I wasn’t the usual happy Drip at all.  You see God made me to be a pure, clear, clean drip of water, a drip you can see through and can drink.

So I got sick with all that smoke and gas.  Do you know what they called me?   Acid Rain!  I was an acid drip.  I had acid in me.  Stuff that burns! It was awful.  I turned into a tear, a very sad Drip.

Do you know what happens when I land in a river with acid inside me.  I am poisonous for fish.  I am.  It’s horrible.  And when people eat a poisoned fish they get sick too.

I don’t want to make you sick.  I want to be a bright clean Drip again.

So I want you to keep all your rivers clean and stop poison gases from going into the sky.  So next time I fall down I am clear and pure. OK?  Will you help?

Then you can pour me into your baptismal font.  Then you can use me to baptise a baby that way Jesus said.  Then I’ll be clean again and you can sing my song:

I’m a little rain drip floating high, ready to drop down from the sky, when I’m falling down just hear me shout: open up I’ll fill your mouth!

Prayer:  Thank you God for Drip. Thank you for water from the skies. Help us to keep our water clean. Amen.
